Explore a career in Care

Course description:
This course will provide a valuable accredited work experience placement and is an ideal introduction for people aged 16-19 who wish to explore a career in care.
Students will have a variety of experiences including facilitated patient contact and be expected to complete a workbook daily during the 5 day course. Successful completion will give you the following nationally recognised qualifications:

  • Level 1 Award in preparing to work in adult social care 6 credits
  • Level 2 Award in understanding how to work in end of life care 3 credits
  • Level 1 Award in supporting employability and personal effectiveness 5 credits

You will get the chance to meet healthcare professionals working in the hospice setting and the opportunity to talk to patients and their carers. Throughout your experience, you will be supported by highly experienced specialist facilitators. Applicants will be interviewed for their suitability prior to the offer of a place. Places are limited to 12 students per course so early application is recommended.

The Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) is the start of the journey to becoming an ACA chartered accountant. The CFAB is governed by the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and makes up the certificate level papers of the ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants). It consists of six e-assessment exams and provides a broad understanding of business-essential knowledge.

Joining us as a CFAB apprentice you could sit in our business tax, corporate audit or international institutions and donor assurance departments.

AAT Apprenticeship

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is governed by the AAT itself and is a stand-alone qualification. The qualification is split over four stages however we usually find our apprentices can fast track past the first two to complete only the Advanced Diploma in Accounting, and the Professional Diploma in Accounting, within our apprenticeship programme.

Joining us as an AAT apprentice you could sit in our outsourcing team.

ATT Apprenticeship

The Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) is governed by the ATT itself, and is a stand-alone qualification. The qualification is made up of five exams, three written papers and two e-assessments, one of which is free choice allowing our apprentices to specialise in a particular area suited to the department and the individual’s progression.

Joining us as an ATT apprentice you could sit in our private client tax department.

Have you finished your A Levels and started looking for your first real permanent job? M&G Investments is looking for a school leaver to join its Apprenticeship scheme working within its research team.

Engineering Higher Apprenticeship – BAE Systems

unnamedAs an Engineering Higher Apprentice with BAE Systems, you will be working with a team of highly skilled, dedicated employees and fellow apprentices from across our Maritime Services busin ess. You’ll be part of a team that designs, maintains, repairs and upgrades ships and maritime equipment for navies around the world.

After studying at a specialist engineering college for a year, you will then start to balance your part time studies with full time work placements at one of our sites in the Solent region. Depending on your preferred discipline (mechanical, electrical, civil), your days could be spent testing software simulation, setting to work new pieces of kit on ships or designing energy solutions. All of your work throughout the apprenticeship will be contributing to the maritime services and support we provide to over 50% of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet.

Become a chartered accountant through completing the ACA qualification, a combination of study, exams and practical work experience. The four key elements of the training are:

Trainee Air Traffic Controllers – NATS

unnamedOur intensive traineeship takes around three years. The first nine months will see you training on simulators and studying relevant subjects from meteorology to law. You’ll then join us gaining live experience in an Ops room. Once validated as an ATCO, you’ll be earning upwards of £50,000. What’s more, as well as having the opportunity to work at any of the NATS 13 UK airports and two central Ops rooms, you could develop your career – and the science of controlling air traffic – across 30 other countries worldwide.

You will need to have a passion for the job, resilience, a calm nature, good powers of concentration, strong spatial awareness, and of course, good problem solving skills. You’ll also need to pass a medical. In terms of qualifications, you’ll need at least 5 GCSEs (although many people who join us have A levels and degrees, too).

In particular, the role will work alongside senior consultants and advisers to coordinate the provision of qualifications and training, including classroom courses and workshops, digital learning, coaching and mentoring programmes and other development initiatives. The scheme will give successful candidates a hands on and practical introduction to learning and talent development activity, as well as broader employee wellbeing and engagement initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

  • Training Coordination, Escalation and Reporting
  • Processing training events, qualifications, enrolments and de-registrations on the learning management system
  • Checking, printing and collation of course materials and booking and preparation of training facilities and environment
  • Testing access, navigation and usability of online training modules and digital learning tools
  • Reviewing and maintaining internal training logs and records
  • Generating training reports to monitor completion status, course evaluation results and employee training needs and trends
  • Email and inbox management – ensuring the email support inbox is monitored with timely response or cascade of queries
  • Diary and meeting management – coordinating meetings and events with internal/external parties ensuring circulation of meeting papers
  • Other responsibilities – processing invoices and providing adhoc admin support to the Talent and Inclusion team members

IT Apprenticeship

IT Operations is looking for an Apprentice to join our Release Operations team.

This team is responsible for the release of change into the production environments. The team has three parts:

  • Environments – Responsible for the provision of controlled environments for development teams to test changes. In addition, the team also owns the pre-production environment used to test deployments before production rollout. A highly knowledgeable team with full exposure to the workings of the overnight batch.
  • Deployments – Responsible for, and ownership of, the mechanisms used to promote change into controlled environments. Highly skilled in automation and scripting. Responsible for the infrastructure used by development, insuring minimal disruption and continuous availability.
  • Release – Aligned with a portfolio of business change and to shape and manage the pipeline of technology changes. To organise and co-ordinate the implementation of releases.

Role Responsibilities

We are primarily looking for someone to join the Environments Team; however there will be opportunity to move around the Release Operations team as a whole.

  • Coordinate Environment activities including Batches/Refreshes/Infrastructure patches
  • Investigate and diagnose bugs across code, data and infrastructure
  • Act as a consultant to key stakeholders (Testing/Development) on testing strategies
  • Carry out automation scripting tasks.
  • Project manage Environment enhancement tasks across internal service providers and M&G
  • Manage relationships with portfolios to ensure clear delivery to controlled environments eg prebatch and refresh automation

Uncle Buck has been providing online short term cash loans since 2004 and during this time our product offering has evolved to meet our customers’ needs. Uncle Buck are looking for an Apprentice Systems & Development Technician to work on the IT service desk resolving IT incidents. The IT team work in a dynamic and fast paced environment which provides services via an online service management system.
Your Duties will include:

  • Diagnosing and resolving software and hardware incidents, including operating systems and across a range of software applications
  • To assist all our users with any logged IT related incident when called upon
  • To take ownership of issues by carrying out problem analysis to implement workarounds with the aim of restoring service to the customer as soon as possible
  • Escalating incidents to other support teams / management where necessary
  • To accurately record, update and document Incident and Requests using the IT Service Desk application
  • To install and configure new IT equipment
  • To resolve incidents and upgrade different types of software and hardware
  • To resolve incidents with printers, copiers and scanners
  • To maintain a first-class level of customer service at all times
  • Ensuring that known issues and workarounds are documented and kept up to date to ensure that incidents can be resolved quickly and easily
  • Ensuring that relevant Compliance and IT Security requirements are met and considered at all times
  • Procurement of IT hardware and software when required
  • Ensure that any issues that cannot be rectified internally are logged with external support companies and followed through to a resolution

35 hours a week, £230 per week (12k per year)

8am until 4pm Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch

Some on call until 8pm from home, and some weekends on call (paid overtime for this).

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Maidstone for up to 12 weeks on a block release basis for structured training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals. The qualifications consist of:

  • Edexcel Advanced Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms
  • L3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
  • L3 Extended Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles
  • Level 2 Functional Skills English, Maths, ICT (if applicable)

To apply for this apprenticeship, you will need at least 4 GCSE’s at A-C grade including English and Maths, aged 16-23, a solid passion for IT and no prior level 4 qualifications.
